SECTION: SOCIAL WORK WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AT RISK
Activity 1: Consultations and help for parents – social, legal, psychosocial and psychological consultation; training for parents to provide a better care for their children; work with parents, extended family and social work for re-establishment of the relationship parents - child/:
Providing of complexed services for children and families; helping parents in the process of raising their kids; prevention of the abandoning children; re-socialization of the families; training for parents, regarding their parental skills:
- health, social and psychological consultations and support for pregnant women at risk to abandon their babies after the birth.
- consultations, regarding different questions about pregnancy, about the changes that happens in the woman’s body during the pregnancy; about how important is the mother’s attitude towards her pregnancy and the unborn child; personal hygiene during the pregnancy and sexual culture in order to protect the baby’s health; delivery and positive attitude of the mother towards the childbirth process; consultations for future mothers regarding the first days after the birth – first hug; first contact with the baby; breastfeeding and first care for newborn;
- consultations and trainings in order to increase the parental abilities - they will include consultations and training about the process of raising the child in its biological family and also work with close friends and the family of the future mother.
- consultations for the parents, regarding the process of parenthood; stimulation of the father’s involvement in the process of raising and upbringning of the child;
- consultations regarding the mental and physical development of the child;
- support at home;
- social and legal consultations.
Activity 2: Child support
Provision of complex of services for child’s deinstitutionalization and re-integration, in the means of creating a suitable conditions for social work with children with families, that they can go back to; work with parents, relatives and children for reconstructing the relationship parent – child; support and consultations for both child and family after the period of re-integration.
- preparing and support for the children and the parents during the reintegration in the family;
- psychological support and consulting of the children and their families during the process of reintegration;
- professional orientation and consulting of the children;
- training for handling crisis situations;
- organizing support groups for mutual aid with close friends and relatives with families, taking care of children at risk;
- support and consultations for children in the post reintegration period;
- assistance for joining educational and professional trainings, collective informing – activities for group informing and advising (for example – talk with a doctor, lawyer, human resources specialists, meetings with potential employers and specialists from Labour Office, authority representatives etc.)
Activity 3: Services for children, who dropped out of the educational system or in risk of that; prevention of child abuse
Provision of complex services for children, for creating suitable conditions for prevention and signing the children at school and deviant behavior – educational activities; entertainment activities; organizing of the free time and education; social activities for social reintegration; re-establishment of the relationship inside the family.
- consulting children regarding liquidation of illiteracy;
- consulting parents regarding the importance of the literacy of their children;
- part time educational programs for basic literacy - individual and group work with children;
- social – pedagogical consultation;
- assistance for starting or continuation of the current education;
- planning of the free time – interest based occupations in a specially equipped room for kids in the Center.
- establishing of a network between the pedagogical advisors; engagement of teachers, school body and schools board into preventive activities.
- consultation and support for children with deviant behavior or victims of child abuse;
- prevention of abuse and deviant behavior – educational programs regarding the rights and obligations of the people and sanctions for abusing them; the danger and results of drug and alcohol abuse, smoking, human traffic, sexual exploitation, information regarding the abuse and neglecting etc.;
- protection of child abuse victims and victims of neglecting and violence – social and psychotherapeutic work with child abuse victims;
- social and psychotherapeutic work with child abuse victims and their parents;
- informing and consulting about Children’s Rights both children and their families.
